THE NEW WAVE OF EDITORIAL
Where creative couture meets evolving editorial - West 31st Street Magazine gives Rodeo the exclusive to the latest and greatest.
In May of 2023, I stepped into my first New York City "Barbie Dreamhouse," a designation affectionately bestowed upon the dorms of the Fashion Institute of Technology on West 31st Street. While the space may have appeared stark and institutional, devoid of the vibrant hues typically associated with such a whimsical title, it marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in my life—one filled with ambition, creativity, and the pulse of a city that never sleeps.
From this inspiration, West 31st Street Magazine was born—a vibrant nexus where creative couture intersects with the dynamic realm of editorial expression. Our goal has been and remains to bridge the gap between creativity, couture and the evolving world of editorial. For months, W31st Street thrived as a standalone digital publication, captivating inboxes nationwide, but it was time for it to find a true home. Creatively managed and produced by childhood friends, we recognized that Rodeo was the perfect sanctuary for our cherished endeavor, offering the ideal environment for our vision to flourish.
My journey from living on W31st Street led me to meeting Lindsay Perper - the mastermind behind Rodeo. For months, I worked alongside Lindsay and her team to create and build what Rodeo is today - a platform for creatives, artists, and people of aspiring talent, to come together and seamlessly connect the digital and editorial worlds. Believing so deeply in her mission and goal, I think that W31st Street has no greater home than Rodeo.
“Addressing the Avenue” is the newest weekly column of W31st Street Mag and it now exclusively lives and breathes on Rodeo. Bi-weekly, you can catch this column in your inbox, divulging the newest trends, unique fads and New York City fashion gossip. “Addressing the Avenue” is an off-shoot of our monthly issues, of W31st Street, where we get into the knitty-gritty of fashion, culture and much more. We will show you what’s hot and what is… not!
In the spirit of all things trending, there's no better way to launch this exclusive partnership than to plunge right into the heart of the matter. Join us as we explore some of our finest discoveries that will seamlessly transition you from the vibrant summer streets of New York City to the enchanting fall ambiance of Paris.
As we move from the warm days of summer to the coolness of fall, three major fashion trends are taking center stage: monochrome, structure, and pattern. At this year’s New York Fashion Week, brands like Proenza Schouler embraced bold monochrome looks in shades of grey and black, focusing on texture and the interesting shapes of their designs. This approach not only highlights the beauty of simplicity but also encourages us to think creatively about how we style our fall wardrobes.
Ralph Lauren’s Hampton show perfectly captured the coastal chic vibe that many Long Islanders adore. The team masterfully embraced pattern, texture, and layering in their designs. I particularly loved how stripes subtly emerged from the necklines and sleeves of more refined outfits, adding a playful touch to the overall sophistication. This thoughtful detailing not only enhances the aesthetic but also evokes the effortless elegance of seaside living.
Phillip Lim took the cake for me this NYFW with their show just next door to my apartment building (no longer on W31st St.). Specifically, the striped blue, white and red striped dress was a showstopper for me. So much so, that I tried it on in-store last week. Zara made a dupe for it, which just goes to show how incredibly unique the shape and design of the dress was. As always, the Phillip Lim “grocery bags” were all over the models, being presented as purses and totes, but I swear if you go to any Jewish grocery store on the Upper East Side, you will see at least one (incredibly chic) mom carrying her Phillip Lim tote as a schlepping bag for her groceries.
