The skinny jeans in the back of your closet-why do you still have them?
You either completely forgot about them or you are eagerly waiting for them to make a comeback. If you’ve been patiently waiting for their resurgence, today is your lucky day. TikTok superstar Alix Earle has officially deemed them cool again.
On January 23, Los Angeles based denim brand FRAME launched denim and black coated skinny jeans named “The Alix” that sold out numerous times. When Alix began her partnership with FRAME back in 2023, she wanted to tackle something daunting in the fashion industry.
Alix told WWD, “the inspiration came from taking something that was no longer ‘in style’ and giving it an upgrade that would introduce it in a fresh, new way.”
So, what makes skinny jeans “new” this time? In the campaign images for “The Alix”, Alix models the blue skinny jeans with a rolled-up cuff and a stiletto heel. This time around, skinny jeans will not be making a casual comeback like we saw in the past. Remember skinny jeans and Adidas Superstars, yeah…never again.
Instead, Skinny jeans are re-emerging in a more elevated and more mature way, to be paired with heels and boots.
Alix told Elle Magazine, “they’re pretty versatile, but I’ll be sticking to a heel or boot on the bottom – I don’t think I would really be wearing them with sneakers like I used to in the past!”
In a way, skinny jeans are growing up with us! They’re no longer just casual and youthful – they’re sexy and refined. As most of us are entering our adult-ish years, we are navigating office days, heading to cocktails with the girls, or finding the perfect outfit for a first date. As our lives evolve, so does our style. And for skinny jeans to make a true comeback, they need to evolve with us.
Alix isn’t the only celeb hopping on the skinny jean wave. Back in November 2024, Taylor Swift wore skinny jeans with a red Louis Vuitton pullover and black lace-up platform ankle boots to the Chiefs vs. Raiders game. We all know Taylor has been waiting for this millennial moment. Skinny jeans also made an appearance on the Fall 2024 runways at Miu Miu AW24, Balenciaga AW24, and Alexander McQueen AW24.
Even though skinny jeans were deemed as “out,” how many of us kept them in our closet just in case they made a comeback? We’ve been waiting for this moment! I’m here to tell you that skinny jeans aren’t “dead;” they just took a brief hiatus. It’s time to dust off your good ole faithful skinny jeans and bring them out of retirement.
